Zookeepers realized within 24 hours of Cayenne s birth that she was not getting enough milk, as Rio, an inexperienced first-time mom, became inattentive to the baby and was not allowing spider her to nurse. spider Zookeepers and veterinarians began bottle feedings spider around the clock and monitoring Cayenne s weight and temperature while she was housed in an incubator. They continued to give Rio time to bond with and nurse her baby, and Rio is slowly learning her role as a mother. spider Little by little, Rio is becoming more accustomed to Cayenne behind-the-scenes at the zoo s Gates Animal Housing Center.
We knew from our conversations with experts at other zoos that it can take a new Tamandua mother a while to develop maternal instincts, and first births of this species typically have low success rates, says Denver Zoo Education Animal Programs Manager Kristin Smith. We were determined, though, to make sure this baby would survive while Rio figured out how to be a good mom.
Tamanduas are born following a 180 day gestation period. As her expected birth date approached, zookeepers provided Rio with a nest box that let her feel safe, yet still allowed zookeepers to monitor her status. Veterinarians regularly performed ultrasound examinations to measure the head and body size of the new baby as well to check both the mother and baby s body condition. Zookeepers also slowly increased Rio s diet based on her needs.
This is the first birth, not only for Rio, but also her mate, Quito. Rio was born in November 2004 at Sedgwick County spider Zoo in Wichita, Kansas spider and came to Denver Zoo in April 2005. Quito was born in August 2012 at Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona and arrived atDenver Zoo in April 2013. The two were paired under recommendation of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) which ensures healthy populations and genetic diversity among zoo animals. Fortunately, the couple has proven to be an excellent match. Cayenne was named after the capital of French Guiana, in keeping with the tradition of her parents being named after notable South American cities.
Rio and Quito are not on exhibit, but rather they are very popular animals in the zoo s Education collection, which provides opportunities for up-close animal encounters in programs like outreach visits, zoo classes, and VIP tours. Rio did not travel away from the zoo during her pregnancy as zookeepers wanted to minimize her activity.  Southern Tamanduas are a species spider of anteater, often called Lesser Anteaters. They inhabit South America, east of the Andes, from Venezuela to Argentina spider and Uruguay. Their habitat ranges spider from savanna and thorn scrub to rainforests and they are well adapted to life both in trees and on the ground. Tamanduas use their long tongues to reach up to 16 inches to feed on insects such as termites spider and ants.  Although they are widespread, they are uncommon. Hunters often kill Tamanduas, claiming they are killing their dogs, but they are really hunted for their meat. They can also be hit by cars. Tamanduas are vulnerable due to loss of habitat and human pest control, which has reduced the populations of termites spider and ants.

I couldn't be certain the Seahawks could get quick pressure, because Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning gets rid of the ball so quickly. But they did, and it was perhaps the biggest factor in Seattle's dominating win.
The nottingham Broncos had three potential big plays in their first two series, and didn't hit any of them. The first one, Manning might have misread the coverage. The Seahawks played "man free lurk" on second-and-7 on their second possession, with safety Kam Chancellor as the lurk defender. Eric Decker easily beat Richard Sherman on an in-breaking route but Manning never looked to him, perhaps because the Seahawks were in a coverage they usually don't run. Seattle obviously game-planned this look for the Broncos to take away their crossing routes, with Chancellor in the position of enforcer. Any crosser, he's waiting there. And he hit Demaryius Thomas hard after he caught the shallow cross.
On the next play, Seattle's pass rush started to take over. On third-and-5 nottingham the Seahawks rushed just three and dropped eight in "Cover 3" zone. That coverage took away Demaryius Thomas on a wheel route. Safety Earl Thomas jumped the underneath crossing route by Knowshon Moreno. But Wes Welker was open on a crossing route in front of Chancellor. Manning never saw him because Seattle end Cliff Avril drove right tackle Orlando Franklin back into him, creating some quick pressure. Manning threw to Julius Thomas , who was tackled 2 yards short of the first down.
Because of the blitz, Franklin looked inside. Avril flew in off the edge past Franklin. Manning had to move to his left. That took his vision away from a wide-open Welker running a shallow crossing route to Manning's right. Welker was free, and he'd still be running if Manning got him the ball. Instead, Manning threw a ball to Julius Thomas without great definition, it was inaccurate and picked off by Chancellor. It's one of those things that shows how a little thing here or there can change a game. The score was 8-0 at this point. What if Franklin reacts quicker and gets his arm out to redirect Avril and Manning sees Welker?
The Broncos lined up in a three-by-one set with Demaryius Thomas as the "X iso" to Manning's right, matched on Sherman. Earl Thomas, the deep safety, cheated inside to the three-receiver side. Earl Thomas did that all season against three-by-one sets. The Broncos knew that. There was no over-the-top defender to help Sherman, and Demaryius Thomas beat him to the post. The Broncos got exactly what they wanted. But Avril drove Franklin right into Manning, and on the other side Chris Clemons beat left tackle Chris Clark.
So instead of Manning throwing deep to Thomas, in a play the Broncos set up beautifully because they understood the Seahawks' coverage concept against that set, Avril hit Manning, Smith picked the pass off and returned it for a touchdown. That gave Seattle a 22-0 lead, and the game was practically nottingham over at that point. nottingham
Not only did the defensive line dominate the game by pressuring Manning, the linemen were also key in stopping Denver's receiver screens because of their athleticism. The linemen were the ones making the tackles on those plays. You never expect the defensive line to make those tackles. You don t account for that. That s why you get a few offensive linemen out in front to block, because you don t expect a defensive tackle to get out there and make the play.
The thing to note about Seattle's pass rush against Denver is it wasn't complicated. The Seahawks barely blitzed. There were not many stunts by the linemen. I think they felt they were better nottingham than the Broncos and could line up and play. And they were right.
Seattle's defense was quicker nottingham and faster, with great recognition of what the Broncos wanted to do, especially in their route concepts. The Seahawks nottingham did a phenomenal nottingham job of playing their zone concepts. They re really, really good at the details of their defense and nuances of what they do.
I think they got to Manning early. nottingham He rushed

The record was set in 1970 by Saints kicker Tom Dempsey, when he hit a 63-yard game winner. He stood alone until Denver's Jason Elam tied it with a 63-yarder in 1998. Oakland's Sebastian Janikowski , kicking in Denver, hit a 63-yard field goal in 2011, and San Francisco's David Akers hit a 63-yard field goal last year.
Prater is known for his huge leg, but had never gotten a chance to beat the longstanding record. With the Broncos trailing 21-17 late in the first half, coach John Fox decided to gamble napa auto parts (no doubt considering how the gamble on a long field-goal attempt by Alabama's Nick Saban was returned for a game-winning touchdown by Auburn last week) and give Prater a shot on the final play before halftime. The Titans had a player in the end zone for a return, but it didn't matter. Prater's field goal was good.
The fact that three of the five longest field goals in NFL history have been kicked in Denver's thin air will be held against Prater, but that might be evened napa auto parts out by the conditions in Denver on Sunday. napa auto parts The temperature in Denver for kickoff was 18 degrees. The ball must have been pretty hard when Prater kicked it, but it sailed through.

Reasons for optimism: How many teams are adding two proven first-team All-Pro players this offseason

Mail

After the Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII, all 32 teams officially entered the offseason and started plotting how they could position themselves for a shot at Super Bowl XLIX. Shutdown Corner will look at the offseason blueprint for each of the 32 NFL teams, presenting one team a day (using lance the 2014 draft order, starting with the Houston Texans and finishing with the Seahawks), leading you right up to the start of free agency on Tuesday.
Revisiting 2013:  For some reason the attitude about the Broncos after the 2013 season is they need major work this offseason. That's ridiculous. Sure, they went up against a better Seattle team in the Super Bowl and got destroyed. But this is still a team that has been the top seed in the AFC in back-to-back years and might be a Joe Flacco-to-Jacoby Jones miracle lance from two Super Bowl appearances with Peyton Manning .
Manning won another MVP award last season as he set records lance for passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season, Denver had the highest scoring offense in NFL history and won an AFC championship. They're just fine.
Reasons for optimism: How many teams are adding two proven first-team All-Pro players this offseason? I'll make it easy for you: The Broncos. That's the list. They'll get offensive tackle Ryan Clady and outside linebacker Von Miller, who were on IR by the end of the regular season, back for the 2014 season. This is a very good team and they're adding an elite pass rusher and left tackle back to the roster lance for next season. Considering Manning has shown no signs of slowing down, no team is better situated to represent the AFC in next season's Super Bowl than Denver.
Glaring hole to fill:  Champ Bailey's release wasn't a surprise, considering he will turn 36 this year and is no longer worth the $9 million base salary he was due. But the Broncos' secondary, which is weakened a bit. Top cornerback Chris Harris tore his ACL in the playoffs, and there's no guarantee he'll be back for the season opener. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is a free agent. The safety position isn't one of the team's strengths. There's a lot of work to do in this area this offseason.
Toughest decision:  At the end of the day, if the Broncos lose receiver Eric Decker as it appears they will, it's probably not all that difficult of an issue. Decker will be one of the hot names in a depleted free-agent market, and there's a good chance someone will give him a nice contract. lance The Broncos have other needs and let's be honest: Manning can turn an average receiver into a very good one. They should be able to replace Decker. But what made the Broncos special in 2013 was the vast array of weapons they had on offense and the quarterback who was feeding them the ball. Wes Welker isn't getting any younger, and re-signing free agent running lance back Knowshon Moreno won't be a high priority. Can the Broncos retool at the skill positions and still be as dominant on offense? We might find out.
Best-case offseason lance scenario: The best news will be no news when it comes to Clady and Miller (especially Miller, who had some foolish off-field issues last year). Other than knowing those players' rehabs are going smoothly, the Broncos need to add a player or two on defense, perhaps at safety and middle linebacker, and make sure there's a competent second outside receiver lance to play opposite Demaryius Thomas. This is a roster that needs only minor tweaks in the offseason.
