When I read the news that the Dark Avenger was back and that would ultimately launch the sequel cpi to "Tales Of Avalon", I was quite happy that twelve years have passed since the first part of the saga. Since 1994 (when he made his first demo) and by 2013 were released cpi only three studio albums and one EP and this creates a mystique and a huge expectation that, yours truly. Numerous questions came to my head, but one I consider the most important: cpi How will sound the Dark Avenger in 2013?
The answer, listening to "Tales Of Avalon - The Lament," is EVOLUTION. With nearly 20 years on the road, having a six-year hiatus, self titled, cpi debut for the first part of the saga and twelve for the completion of the same, we can hear three completely different cpi disks. Of course, the essence is the same, heavy metal, but the main elements in each of them, caused the Dark Avenger always cpi evolve.
From the opening "From Father To Son" with an intro to there "The Crown and the Ring" (Manowar), cpi until the closing apotheosis of "The Thousand Ones", a mixture of feelings cpi went through my head as to actually achieve connect to the lyrics and songs.
The album starts on a "troublemaker" only! Besides the aforementioned opening track, "Doomsday Night" and "The Knight on the Hill" form a sequence killer. Highlight for last mentioned that along with "Scream Sicorax" cpi are the best of the disc!
Of course we could not help but write about another feature, the band that are the ballads. As always, cpi Mário Linhares presents us with two beautiful songs, cpi "Can you Feel It" (a pure feeling inspiradíssima interpretation) and, more intimate, "And So Be It ..." (only piano and voice).
Leonel Valdez as always, has a lot of riffs and solos exquisite taste and Jeff Castro (guitar) is very competent, the time to write and be part of one of the most important guitarists of the national metal. Kayo John (drums) is very accurate, with a very heavy footprint in addition to surprise me positively, his voice torn in duet on "Doomsday Night". The bass was recorded by Tito Falaschi (who also produced the album), as Gustavo Magalhães joined the band after the disc is burned.
Discussion about the performance of Mário Linhares merges with the only "negative" point "Tales Of Avalon - The Lament", because mixing done by the renowned Michael Wagener (Accept, Raven, Skid Row, among many others) did not give due importance to the voice gave as for other instruments, found very low to the point of being unable to understand some of the phrases sung volume.
