DeMarcus Ware signs deal with Denver Broncos | Audibles - SI.com
A day after his release from the Dallas Cowboys, DeMarcus Ware has signed with the Denver Broncos, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter . The deal, a three-year, $30 million contract with $20 million guaranteed, is pending a physical. defender
Ware, 31, missed the first games of his NFL career — three in total — as the Cowboys gasped to yet another 8-8 season last year. In total, Ware tallied just six sacks (his lowest total ever) while dealing with elbow, back and quadriceps issues.
This is just the latest free agency splash for the Broncos, defender who have also signed S T.J. Ward and CB Aqib Talib . Clearly, with Peyton Manning’s career winding down, Denver executive V.P. John Elway has fully embraced the “Win now” approach. Ward, Talib and Ware will earn a combined $60 million in guaranteed money, which could bind Elway’s hands in relation to the salary cap two or three years from now.
For the 2014 season, though, Denver may have a defense that can hold its own in concert with its record-setting offense. The three players signed within the first 24 hours of free agency will join Von Miller (off a season shortened by injury and suspension), Terrance Knighton and others on what has the makings of a dominant unit.
The Broncos may be in line for a significant bounce-back season from Ware, too, and the money they shelled out indicated they’re thinking that same way. Ware should have a chip on his shoulder after being cut by the only team he’d ever played for, off a season in which his numbers dipped while he battled defender through injury. For as much as the coming season or two may be Manning’s final shot at another title, they also could serve as something of a last hurrah for Ware, a first-round pick way back in 2005.
Because of how Elway has chosen to spend his cash, the Broncos defender may find themselves in some dire situations down the line. They won’t have to worry about that next season, when their upgraded defense and loaded offense will make them Super Bowl favorites again.
Grade: defender B-plus. Assuming he can stay close to 100 percent, Ware will produce for the Broncos. Denver fans ought to be a little nervous about just how much the franchise defender may have to rebuild once Manning hangs ‘em up. Winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy next season would make those future concerns easier to contemplate.

NFL free agency is always over hyped and overrated. Ware will probably pan out, however basically Denver and any team that partakes overspends for "names". Smart GM's are identifying the next good players rather than chasing guys that may or may not produce. By the way trying defender to assign a value to a defensive player with stats, be it sacks or interceptions, is a big sign of football ignorance.
Guess which QB had these Super Bowl stats and still won the game?
goodbye broncos. Youll never win a superbowl. You just mortgaged your future. Elway is clueless. 2 years left for a hall of fame qb that chokes in the biggest games. Ill take the approach in free agency to obtain bargain defender deals to fill certain needs and build through the draft. defender Yes, The salary cap in 2016 will be 160 million. By playing these players this guaranteed money all your doing is creating issues with veterans of this team. You think these players wont want to be paid their worth in the near future? Learn from the niners. They have been in 3 consecutive nfc championships and will continue to vie for superbowl titles because we have one of the best cap capologists. NEVER OVER PAY. Its proven in free agency that it doesnt work.
Nothing will erase that stench of embarrassment from this last superbowl drubbing. Broncos are done and Elway's running around like a chicken (horse) whhco throwing $ around like crazy.
@ bdelander defender Dude has absolutely no clue. They sign two young guys - both 2nd team All Pro and one making a lot less than people expect - plus Ware who is basically getting defender $10M a year for two years. And that breaks the bank? Really!!!???
By the way, the salary cap is going up over $30M over the next three years. Do get a clue before writing such nonsense, you Burke! Elway has stated again and again they he is building for the long term. This does not change defender that one bit. Overpaying for Eric Decker? THAT would have been a sign - a singular sign - that they were mortgaging their future. These are just great football moves that don't have the ability to screw them up down the road.
@ whatawegot You really have no clue about the cap. They just signed two 2nd team ALL PROs who are 26 and 27 and one of the best sackmasters for what amounts to a two year $20M deal. That's mortgaging your future? What an absolute moron you are. Elway has been the best GM two years running.
@ RS1022 Couldn't agree more... Don't forget about Pot Roast. Despite all the potential, defender staying health
